The Distributed Fiber Optic Sensing system (DFOS) is a state-of-the-art non-destructive measurement technology. It measures the Brillouin scattering effects of the sensing fiber and compares the shifted Brillouin Frequency with its initial data. Through this process the measurement of strain and temperature of the fiber can be achieved. For the structural monitoring, through the sensing fibers that are inlaid in or attached to the tested structures, one who can understand the structural health by DFOS in several physical status; such as strain, temperature, vibration, and displacement.
Thanks to the interrogator made of modern fiberoptic laser-electronic technology, the deployed sensing points by fibers measures up to 600 thousand points, and interval of each point can be down to 5cm grade. Thus, the DFOS system provides the 3-dimension measurement of "Spatial continuous, Time continuous, and Data continuous". Furthermore, when integrated with the smart computers, the DFOS then provides functions of automatic measurement and timely warning, that can greatly assist the industry of civil engineering to keep their management goal straightly .
The system has the ability to measure axial and radial strain, and can obtain the status of sectional and axial deflection of the tunnel or box girder. This can be used for construction or maintenance to provide the most thorough measurement data.
With the planning and installing of multiple sensing instruments and optical sensing fibers, the system can measure and calculate the distributed displacement, strain, temperature, and vibration of the measured underground structure.
The system has the ability to fully presents the track's thermal expansion and geometric irregularity. And in accordance with the notification alarms, system provides early warning notification and automatic rail inspection functions for the railway.
